IS GLOBALISATION AFFECTING US?

Globalisation is a process of communication, connection and interaction between countries and people around the world. This controversial process affects the entire world’s culture, economy, politics and society in many ways.
This phenomenon has been increasing in the last forty years and we can find many samples of that looking at Jet airplanes, cheap telephone service, email, computers, smart cell phones, etc.
Globalisation made the things easier, better and more effective, for example: Some companies have become multinational chains which manufacture their products in other country and sell those all around the world. It allows the increase of global economy, because more than one country receives money.
I’m part of the young people group which is being affected by this global phenomenon so in this occasion I’m going to talk about our points of view, about the advantages and disadvantages in this sector. I asked people using internet face to face communication and they said me the reasons to support their beliefs about this process. I summarized those reasons to create this report which is addressed to the Ministry of youth.
Defenders of globalization refer to the concept of globalization as “a structured process that allows flows of capital, goods, knowledge and technology between individuals and states in all parts of the planet and results to economic convergence, elevated standards of living levels, and many changes in the economic, political, cultural, and social aspects of human life” but I think it’s so much more than those lines.
Globalisation affects us directly and indirectly, it brings countless advantages, One of this advantages is that young people have better access to knowledge, so nowadays the youth is aware of world issues, conflicts, etc.
It’s good because their minds are being prepared to think as an adult but young people are more vulnerable than adults so they can believe in everything they read in internet, the bad side of this Is that pitifully, in internet we can find millions of false things, which can damage youth’s ideas.
In my opinion, the bad side of the bad side of all of this is that the disadvantages of globalization become worse in the youth, they receive a direct effect.
Young people are in the middle of finding a sense of identity and form a personality which can be influenced by ideas taken of this process.
Globalisation as every process, has a good side, it allows us to communicate with other young people from all around the world, we can learn about their culture and to respect their points of view.
For example, I recently created a blog in internet without knowing how much it could help me in my personal development. Thanks to it, I knew a Palestinian girl who told me about her culture, perspective, religion, etc. Now I know the reasons of their way of life and I respect Palestinian culture much more than before. I wouldn’t happen without the help of internet through globalization.
According my experience, I can say that globalization can be one of the more effective ways to change this world and kill this horrible monster, the discrimination; because people can understand other cultures and respect them.
Globalization is good for us, but if we see the other side of the coin, we can realize globalization creates and addiction, nowadays young people can spend more than 5 hours sitting in front of a computer listening to music downloaded using internet and navigating in msn, facebook, my space or another social network. They prefer to do that instead study or do homework. Sometimes is difficult to go and study because you want to continue looking at photos in facebook or whatever you do in the computer. (I say that because for doing this piece of writing I should’ve closed my facebook and msn account, otherwise I wouldn’t be as concentrated as I am now).
Without leaving the principal topic away, globalisation makes the people be more tolerant and open about what surrounds them. It allows communication between millions of people of different parts of the world, so I think it’s the only way to stop racism, homophobia and xenophobia.
Globalisation makes easier the interchanges between students from all around the world. For example: My school promotes a trip to England every July, the last year my father sent me to that interchange and it was an awesome opportunity to open my mind and learn many things. I knew and talk with people of Venezuela, Japan, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, France, Holland, Poland, Luxemburg, and so many countries more. It was a really interesting way of learning about what other people thing, which sometimes was so different from what I thought. It was a chance of switch ideas and opinions, which had helped me in many ways.
In summary, Globalisation has good and bad aspects so the most important issue is to educate vulnerable young people to approach and make a good use of technologies. It’s true that this process will demand so much hard working but youth is the planet’s future, so it deserves it.
